The National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s (NCCN) expert panel announced at the 2007 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium the inclusion of Oncotype DX in its updated guidelines, which were published online in early 2008 at http://www.nccn.org.  The inclusion of Oncotype DX in NCCN’s updated guidelines represents a significant step forward for molecular diagnostics in breast cancer treatment planning.  Many physicians consult these guidelines for clinical practice recommendations and use them to aid decision-making in the care of their breast cancer patients.

NCCN included Oncotype DX in its updated clinical practice guidelines based on multiple independent clinical studies involving more than 3,300 breast cancer patients, including a large validation study published in The New England Journal of Medicine and a chemotherapy benefit study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Inclusion in NCCN's updated treatment guidelines reinforces the significance of genomic diagnostics in breast cancer treatment planning. Oncotype DX is the only multi-gene expression assay recommended in the current ASCO and NCCN breast cancer guidelines.  These recommendations support the use of Oncotype DX as a tool to aid breast cancer management for appropriately selected patients. These recommendations also differentiate Oncotype DX from other multi-gene expression assays, which are not recommended by these guidelines.
